Note: This event has already passed.

Location: Shore Park Pool, Aberdeen Proving Ground
Cost: Free

Calling all Families, Military Units, Work/Office Groups, etc!!!

Have your team construct a "watercraft" using only clean cardboard and duct tape. The shortest time to float your watercraft across the pool with at least one passenger (using a cardboard paddle) wins!

Cardboard Boat Regatta Rules and Guidelines:

  • The only items that can be used to make your Boat and Paddle are CLEAN cardboard and duct tape. Cardboard needs to be free of stickers that can fall off, chalk, spilled liquids...materials that would come off and contaminate the pool water.
  • Only corrugated cardboard may be used. It can be of any thickness but must not be bonded to any other material such as vinyl. Noncorrugated material may not be used, especially the kind of resin or wax-type coating found in packing cases. No solid cardboard and no carpet roll tubes may be used.
  • A team flag for your boat is allowed.
  • All boats will be inspected before they are allowed in the pool. If the inspector feels the products used are dirty, the boat will be disqualified.
  • The timed race will begin with a whistle. The boat captain must paddle their boat to the opposite end of the pool. Once their hand touches the opposite side of the pool and they remain in their boat the timer will stop.
  • No more than two boats will be in the water at once. A competing boat captain will be disqualified if that captain interferes with a competitor's boat.
  • At least one person must sit in your boat to paddle it to the other side.
  • The boat with the best time wins.
  • Ships can be broken down and disposed of in the trash by the pool.  But they must be flattened first.
