Fitness Facilities

Aberdeen Proving Ground has 3 fitness facilities.

Each facility has a large basketball/volleyball court area, racquetball courts, fitness areas, free weight room and locker and shower areas, some with saunas and steam rooms. Both gymnasiums have a wide variety of sports equipment for checkout, including racquetball equipment, jump ropes, and indoor and outdoor practice balls.


NOTICE: Recently, the Army's Senior Leadership announced the official transition from the Army Physical Fitness Test to the Army Combat Fitness Test. On Oct 1, 2019 all Soldiers entering initial military training.

Basic Combat Training, Advanced Individual Training and One Station Unit Training will be administered the ACFT. The Army as a whole in on a glide path to Total Army implementation no later than Oct 1, 2020. Soldiers on APG will be required to take two not-for-record ACFTs in preparation for the physical test of record no later than October 2020.

APG in support of the Army's efforts to transition to a test that will better connect fitness with combat readiness has invested in functional fitness equipment and upgrades to our fitness facilities infrastructure.

These upcoming modifications along with other reorganization of equipment and priority of utilization will ensure that every Soldier is aligned with the Army Chief of Staff's readiness priorities - highly trained, disciplined and physically fit Soldiers capable of winning on any battlefield at any time.

Additional Facilities:

Tennis Courts - There are 7 courts available for play in the Aberdeen Area including 3 (lighted) courts in the 3300 block. 5 courts are located in the Edgewood Area; 2 in the E4100 block and 3 in the E4600 block.

Fitness Paths - We have 2 fitness paths in the Aberdeen Area (Plumb Point area and Fanshaw Field area) and, 1 in the Edgewood area around the Airfield.

Multi-Purpose Athletic Fields - Fields are located in both the Aberdeen (3300 block) and Edgewood Areas (E4100 block). Fields are lighted and are used for softball, soccer and flag football.

General Policies
  • Athletic bags cannot be stored in the exercise equipment areas or around cardiovascular equipment due to safety and crowded conditions. Bags must be stored in lockers.
  • During peak participation times or when individuals are waiting to use cardiovascular exercise, there is a 20-minute time limit on each piece of equipment.
  • Patrons using the center are required to scan in using a valid military/DOD identification card upon entry.
  • Eye protection is required by all patrons when playing racquetball or handball.
